June 2, 2008. Game 5 of the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals, Pittsburgh Penguins at Detroit Red Wings.

A high-stick by the Detroit Red Wings’ Jiri Hudler in triple overtime drew blood, and a four-minute double minor penalty. The power play led to Petr Sykora’s game-winning and championship-saving goal for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Do you smell hockey pucks?

SPACEBOY asked:

Ah, that sweet, sweet aroma. The only smell more able to get me geared up for puck season was the stale beer and crushed peanut smell the old Boston Garden had.
Anyway, let’s do this already!
First order of business, taking over the Hockey Forum. What’s with all these other questions? Don’t people know how to categorize their question?
Next, Pre-season Awards (my predictions):
1. Most Over-Hyped- Stamkos and the Lightning. Can’t say why, I just have a gut feeling that all the changes won’t pan out the way the new owners conceived.
2. Biggest Surprise (for better or worse): Toronto. If they win 25 games they get this award. When I look at their potential starting roster, I have to get out my Hockey News Draft issue to see where these guys last played.
3. Don’t Count Us Out Award: Phoenix. Olli is possessed and will see the playoffs for the first time. Doan will build on his best pro season and Gretzky will look like a genius, again.
4. I Love My New Linemates Award: Hossa. He’ll have a huge year if paired with Zetterberg all year.

Ideas on other awards??
Great to be back. Go Red Wings (and Bruins - had to say that since we here in Boston take winning seriously…and have been doing it so often lately)
3.
Boneyard- thanks for the info. They must be the same guys managing the “bailout” here in the USA.
By the way- Skoda logo- are you in Europe? When I lived in Norway I used to see that a lot.
ANYONE ELSE THINK it is ironic that Hollweg got suspended for swiping his stick at someone last week?It was him who received the brutal slash from Simon- what’s with that?!
TROMBASS- good new awards. The *** Award is priceless. I’ll throw Jokinen into the category if things fail there. The kid will think he is jinxed if that happens.

Whats your biggest hockey regret?

The Homer Who Loves Homer asked:

im not talking about playing… im talking like what did you do in favor of watching your team the night they had a bench clearing brawl? or you werent so much into hockey but you missed one of the ‘great ones’. what is something that you missed that you regret not seeing?

for me it was when i decided to not let the red wings rule my life and go out with my friends. but on my way out to the bar i got a call from my friend that the game was cancelled becuz Juri Fischer had “passed out on the bench or something”. it still bothers me to this day!

so what about you….?!

Is anyone else enjoying the Sharks/Red Wings Game as much as I am?

This has been one of the best hockey games I have had the pleasure of watching all season. It’s nearly 1AM, I just cannot stop watching. If this works out as a playoff match up, I would consider skipping Flyers games to watch the series.
This was not intended as a dig at Red Wings fans. The score was 4-4 when I started typing and they made it 6-4 just as I clicked the submit button.
The only thing that could have made that game better would have been a 4 minute and 59 second overtime. (No shootouts, thank you!)
To the folks down on Osgood: He always does this during the regular season. Sort of the goaltender version of Claude Lemieux. He seems to have a different gear for the playoffs. No need to worry about Osgood.
Erica: A friend of mine was hired by the teams to shoot a game I happened to be working. I slipped him a couple of beans and he took a couple of good shots of me as well. Email me and I will give you the links to the penalty shot situation. Frame by frame of the infraction with me signaling the penalty shot as the exclamation mark. I am coming to Pittsburgh in March again (I think it’s March) for league playoffs.
Speaking as a casual observer of this game, I am comfortable saying that all of you folks griping about the Marleau goal being offsides are just dead wrong.

This is the best video I have been able to find so far. The play is shows up at 4:16 of the video. It took some trial and error, but it is possible to pause it while the puck is over the blue line and his right foot is still on the blue line.

Solid: Incorrect. The puck must completely cross the blue line before the player completely crosses the blue line. The linesman made the correct call, the puck crossed the line before Marleau’s right foot crossed the blue line. Possession has absolutely nothing to do with it.
Troy: His foot is clearly ON the line. The skates are the only deciding factor in an off-sides call.

what hockey game should i get tix for?

hannah asked:

so for valentine’s day, i want to get my boyfriend some tickets to a hockey game (we live in l.a., so either the kings, or the ducks). my boyfriend is from detroit, so he’s a HUGE red wings fan. however, we missed the last two times that they were in southern california…

so i want to get the next best thing for him. i was thinking of getting tickets to a ducks game (because honestly, i may not know a lot about hockey, but even i know that the kings suck). my question is, what would be another really good team for me to get tickets for?

the ducks are playing in anaheim against these teams:

–thrashers
–stars
–wild
–canucks
–sharks
–predators
–coyotes
–avalanche
also, the wild are playing the ducks on his birthday (march 8th)… would that be better? i honestly don’t know what teams are good, and which ones are just ok.

hockey question?

sportsfreak01234 asked:

im not a huge hockey fan but i watch it from time to time. heres my question. say its i dont know wings vs flames. iginla recieved a 2min penalty and 30 seconds into the penalty chelios gets one for the wings. so its one man in the box for each team. well after iginlas penalty expires the flames would have a 30 second powerplay. say the red wings kill off the powerplay and its back to 5on5 does that count as a penalty kill cuz it was a 30second powerplay for the flames or does a penalty have to be a clear cut 2minutes for it to count? thx
