Been so busy and away from most hockey. The Rangers said what?

Amber asked:

Pretty much the only hockey I’ve seen or read about in the last few days was Semin and Ovechkin tearing it up last night, and those mean Penguins beating MY Red Wings.

My Question is—-

I just read about how the Rangers are looking to get compensation for Alex Cherepanov. Now are they getting this, so-called “compensation”? And hasn’t there been a past where teams were unfortunate to get nothing back at all for even less?

I don’t know.. seems like a bad time to ask for a “compensation”. Apology or no apology.

Well this one’s a little off topic when you look at the typical content here at HyerStandard. However I figure that it’s my birthday and I should go ahead and post the video anyways. This is not just a random video either, it is of the 07-08 Detroit Red Wings, who happen to be not only my favorite franchise in all of sports, but also my religion in some sense. My mood, and overall personality, are directly related to how the Wings happen to be playing. Is that a good thing? I don’t know, probably not. Is it going to change? Not until the day I die. ENJOY!

How many of you USA hockey fans root for the Stanley Cup to be won by US-based franchises over Canadian ones?

Friday, January 16th, 2009
Erica …..Like It …Or Lump It asked:

I’m sure almost everyone has heard the “bring the Cup back to Canada” line from Canadian hockey fans rooting for Canadian teams in the playoffs over US-based franchises. Even though I’m inclined to point out that some US teams have more Canadians on their rosters than someCanadian teams, I understand and respect that the Cup is sacred to Canadians and it is a matter of pride with hockey being “their” sport.

Recently, however, I was talking to a Red Wings fan who said they’d prefer to see a US team win the Cup over any Canadian team if the Wings were out of contention. I couldn’t recall hearing this from a US hockey fan before. There is not the same historical significance of the Cup with the US, the NHL playoffs are not an international competition, and personally, I don’t think I could cheer for a rival team to win the Cup after my favorite team is out of contention just because they’re a US team. So…

POLL (for US hockey fans): Do you prefer that a US team wins the Cup?

If you Canadian hockey fans want to weigh in (if, for example, you think it’s silly for US fans to want the Cup won by a US team) feel free to do so, of course.
